About & E-E-A-T

Built on trust and real expertise

Spelling Bee Answers is an independent educational resource maintained by a small team of educators and word-game enthusiasts. Here's how we work — and why you can rely on us.

Original content

Every puzzle, word list, and lesson is written by our editorial team. We do not scrape or republish copyrighted puzzle answers.

Fact-checked

Definitions, pronunciations, and word origins are reviewed against authoritative dictionaries before publishing.

Kept current

Pages display a clear last-updated date and are revised as language usage and best practices evolve.

Our editorial process

Each resource passes through three stages: research, where we gather definitions and example usage from established dictionaries; writing, where an educator drafts clear, age-appropriate explanations; and review, where a second team member checks spelling, accuracy, and reading level before anything is published.

Why we don't copy puzzle answers

Published crossword and spelling-bee answer lists are protected by copyright, and reproducing them would breach both the rights of their creators and Google AdSense's content policies. We respect those boundaries. More importantly, we believe a list of answers helps no one learn — so we build original practice instead.

Educational purpose statement

This site exists to help people of all ages build vocabulary and spelling skills. Everything here is free and designed for classroom, home, and personal use. We are an independent resource and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The New York Times.

Sources & references

Our definitions and etymologies draw on widely respected references including standard English dictionaries and established etymological resources. Where a word's origin is debated, we note the most commonly accepted account. The live dictionary across the site fetches definitions, pronunciations, and audio in real time from an open dictionary API, so the entries you see are sourced, not invented.

How our daily puzzle stays authentic

Our daily honeycomb is generated automatically from the public-domain ENABLE word list of more than 172,000 real English words, then fully solved by our own software. Because the puzzle is built from a real dictionary and verified end to end, every answer we display is a genuine, valid word — never random letters or filler. This is how we offer a current, daily resource without ever copying a copyrighted answer key.

Our corrections policy

We're human, and language is nuanced. If you spot an error in a definition, example, or explanation, email us and we'll review it promptly. Substantive corrections are made transparently, and the page's last-updated date is revised when content changes.

Advertising & independence

This site may display advertising to keep our tools free, but ads never influence our educational content. We are an independent resource and are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to The New York Times or any puzzle publisher.

Who this site is for

Whether you're a parent supporting a young reader, a teacher building a weekly word list, a competitor preparing for a regional bee, or simply a word lover, our goal is the same: to help you genuinely improve, not just look up an answer. Everything here is free, original, and built to teach.
